About The Barn Space
The Barn Space Pebble Hill House is a unique property nestled in the picturesque town of Maynooth.
Pebble Hill House, originally part of The Carton Demesne was the Steward House of the Duke of Leinster and dates to circ. late 1700s. The steward’s role was to manage the overall estate.
On 18 May 1951, a conveyance was signed in which Edward, Duke of Leinster was one party, Arthur Cowdrew and Denis Henry Fitzgerald were the second party, and Carton Properties Limited was the third party to transfer lands from the estate into Carton Properties Ltd.
In 1975 the ownership of the Pebble Hill House parcel of land was transferred from Carton Properties Limited to Thomas Galvin. Thomas’ son Des, lives locally and is a rich sort of knowledge on the property.
It transferred from Galvin ownership to The Doyles and in 2004, the Bartons bought the property.
As custodians of Pebble Hill House property, the Bartons continue to sensitively restore this property. In 2024 The Barn Space was renovated using traditional building methods like lime rendering and restoring roof timers with original material. The floors are reused timber salvaged from the Hiut Demin Factory in Wales which give a warm tone to the floor.
The result is a unique calming space nestled within an acre of gardens in the picturesque town of Maynooth. The space is serviced by paths which provide access to idyllic nature walks within The Carton Estate and around the University town of Maynooth. The space provides a calming tranquil setting for retreats and workshops.
